Bowlers pumelled at Portobello

TEVIOTDALE’s four-rink men’s team travelled to Portobello in good heart following their win over Headwell the previous week, but hopes of a good result were dashed by the capital outfit.

After seven ends, the hosts were in front by 32 shots to 18, and they increased their advantage to 27 shots after 14 heads heads. At the conclusion of the 18th end, Portobello were leading in all four individual contests and were in front by 33 shots, and eventually ran out winners by 96 shots to 56.

Members and friends of Wilton are reminded that the club is staging several festive events – the first of which is on Saturday, December 22, when a mixed dominoes will be staged at 8pm. The following Saturday (December 29), there will be a social evening starting at around 8pm. The club will also be open from 9pm on Auld Year’s Night when all are welcome.

THe first in a series of challenge games will take place on Saturday, January 5, when Jedburgh are the visitors. Players are to be at the indoor hall for 11.45am with a noon start. Following the bowls, there will be a bite to eat and dominoes in the West Stewart Place clubrooms. There will also be games against Chirnside (February 9), Kelso (February 23), and the Selkirk ‘Die Hards’ on (March 16). Team sheets for names are in the clubrooms at West Stewart Place or contact D.
