Snow alert: Schools could close early today (Friday)

IN LIGHT of the high risk of heavy snow from 11am today (Friday), a decision will be made on whether schools should close early following a teleconference between Scottish Borders Council and the Met office at 9am.

Although pupils should be able to travel to school as normal in the morning there is potential for disruption to transport in the afternoon.

Parents and carers will be informed through the group-call system, while there will be updates on local radio, and SBC’s website (www.scotborders.gov.uk) and social media feeds.

Jackie Swanston, SBC’s head of schools services, said: “The council has been liaising closely with the Met Office to allow us to closely monitor the situation as it progresses.

“We don’t anticipate any major problems in the morning as pupils head to school but with the snow expected to arrive by lunchtime, early closures may have to come into force. We want to pre-warn parents that this may happen.”
