THE Scottish Parliament has arrived in Hawick for the first Parliament Day.

Last night (Sunday), saw Tower Mill hosting the official reception, at which speeches were given by Presiding Officer Tricia Marwick, the finance committee convener Kenneth Gibson MSP, and Graham Garvie, Scottish Borders Council convener.

A crowd of around 120 invited guests, including Lord David Steel, the first ever presiding officer, also enjoyed musical entertainment from Riddell Fiddles and a sneak peak of the latest Creative Fashion course by senior high school students.

The Finance Committee will meet in Heart of Hawick this afternoon (Monday) when members will examine the Scottish Government’s spending plans.

Local organisations and businesses, including Hawick Knitwear and Hawick Senior Citizens’ Association, attended workshops this morning to have their say, while schoolchildren will have the opportunity to watch the committee meeting and ask MSPs questions.
