YOUTH crime calls to Burnfoot have plummeted by 75% since last year.

The impressive figures were given to the estate’s community council on Tuesday evening.

Last month police received 49 calls and these included two for vandalism, 2 thefts and there was zero assaults on the estate.

Commenting on the latest figures, Community Council chariman Richard Knight said: “This is very good news for Burnfoot. We have been working long and hard with the local police officers to get to this point and all the hard work has paid off. I am delighted.

“It’s brilliant. Youths who used to congregate at the shops are no longer there in number and it is noticeable. Youngsters are even more polite and thoughtful than in previous years. I am sure other folk have noticed a difference too.”
