THE annual Hawick Reivers Festival next month will once again celebrate the town’s famous past with a series of events throughout the weekend (March 25-27).
Although Hawick Archaeological Society are yet to reveal details of a new guest speaker on the Saturday – after Tom Moss announced this week he could no longer provide a talk on the Union of the Crowns in the Textile Tower House – there is still plenty of reiving history to celebrate.
Staff at the Heritage Hub are going to be on hand to help people Discover the Landscape of your Ancestor, using archives and archaeology to learn the story of the reivers, whilst there will be talks by Derek Stewart and the Clansmen in the Barrel Vaulted room of the Textile Tower House.
On the Sunday the popular Literary High Tea at Mansfield Rugby Club will welcome guest speaker John Sadler, a historical author, lecturer and battlefield tour guide. He is the author of more than 20 books on Raiders and Reivers and Border Fury. He will present a brief overview of the Anglo Scottish Wars and the origin of Reivers. Tickets are available at Bannerman & Burke priced £12.50, from 375263 or online at www.borderevents.com/boxoffice
