Paul to lead Roxburgh Singers in Mendelssohn production

FORMER Hawick High School pupil Dr Paul Tierney is to take on the leading role in the Roxburgh Singers’ production of Mendelssohn’s Elijah.

As a soloist with a fine baritone voice, Paul (pictured) has performed with many groups at home and abroad.

A graduate of the University of Aberdeen in 2006 with a 1st Class BMus (Hons) degree, he recently graduated with a PhD in composition.

More local soloists include Dr Geoff Ross and Isobel Burton. The soprano soloist for the performances will be Jessica Leary.

Elijah is being performed on this occasion with Organ accompaniment, and this is in the capable hands of Simon Nieminski, who is organist at St Mary’s Roman Catholic Cathedral in Edinburgh.

The performance will be conducted by Rev Marion Dodd a previous member of the BBC Singers.

The performances take place in Jedburgh Old & Trinity Parish Church on Saturday, May 14 and the following day at Teviot Parish Church in Hawick. Both commence at 7.30pm. Admission costs £8, and accompanied children go free.
