A YOUNG Hawick 2nds side lost out to a strong Kelso outfit at Buccleuch Park last Sunday.

Home captain Declan Solley won the toss and put the visitors in to bat.

However, despite a few early wickets, Kelso managed to reach a very competitive target of 211 to win.

Most of the Kelso batsmen chipped in with decent totals with T. Williams getting 50 and the Aussie ‘pro’ coming in and getting a brisk 38 not out.

Pick of the bowlers for Hawick were Doug Bryant 4-35, Neil Storey 2-20 and Gary Alexander 3-21. Young Ryan Johnston picked up his first wicket for the second team while Ronan Alexander, Andrew Parr and Pierce Solley bowled well despite not picking up the wickets they deserved.

Chasing a big total, the Hawick innings never really got going as they managed to reach 122 off 40 overs.

Top scorers for Hawick were Gary Alexander with 25, Andrew Johnston 19 not out and Parr and Cammy McAulay who both scored 13 against the good, young bowling attack of Kelso. Young Ronan Alexander scored seven but deserved more after a gutsy, solid batting display.

Special mentions must be made to Ryan Johnston and Ronan Alexander who bowled well against the first team players of Kelso, while Podge Johnston fielded like a cat behind the stumps.
