LESLEY Atkins has been selected to represent Scotland in the girls’ home internationals next month.
The 16-year-old (pictured) is part of the eight-strong squad which will contest the trophy over the Gullane No. 2 course.
And Lesley, who missed out on the European team championships earlier this year, can’t wait for the matches to begin.
She said: “I was desperate to be picked. I’ve been playing for Scotland for the last three years.
“Because of exams this year I haven’t been playing a lot of big tournaments earlier in the season and that has maybe affected me a little.”
Lesley is a member of Gullane Ladies, which has made her even more determined to produce a top performance.
And she is confident Scotland can show up well. She added: “As always, Scotland have been playing second fiddle to England because of their strength in depth and they’re strong again this year. But the Scotland team is a lot stronger now and I don’t think we’ll be far away.”
Lesley, who plays off 1.7, defends the Mackie Bowl this weekend over the Gullane No. 1 course, where she holds the course record.
