Hawick United have been hit by the rule book and as a result are heading to Ayrshire for today’s South of Scotland Cup tie with Glenmuir Thistle, instead of playing the match at Wilton Lodge Park, writes John Slorance.
Explaining the change of venue, United secretary Steven Ellins told the Hawick News: “We were drawn against Glenmuir Thistle at home in the South Cup, however, as that is a game that has been put off three times, it has to be moved to the other side’s pitch.” United’s game with Glenmuir has been postponed twice due to frozen pitches, and another match was abandoned after 90 minutes due to ground conditions.
Ellins added: “This counts as three games being called off, so United are now having to play the game away.”
United manager Geo Shepherd commented: “It seems that it’s three strikes and you’re out. “I don’t think that the abandoned game shoud count, though, and I’m disappointed about it.”
He added: “We are now having to go and play in Ayrshire tomorrow and that’s a long trip.”
