New Hawick RFC head coach Nikki Walker hinted this week that the club are close to finalising deals to bring back some familiar faces to Mansfield Park.
Having spent the last five years watching their best players leave for other teams in the region, the Greens are hopeful that the exodus has ended as the club looks to bring back its former stars.
Speaking to the Hawick News, Walker, who didn’t want to be drawn on the identity of the players in question, said: “We have had a few old faces down at training in the past few weeks but we are still actively pursuing targets to make sure we have the strongest possible squad for the start of the season.
“This process is a four-year plan and we are targeting the players who have left the town to help strengthen the squad and also develop the great young talents we have in Hawick.”
The former Scotland international is keen to add quality and competition to a squad that finished just above the relegation places last season and is hopeful it will lead to a better product on the pitch.
“In the past the club has had a small squad and little in the way of competition for places which can sometimes breed complacency.
“Competition for places is a huge motivator and will allows us to get the most out of the players and make sure we have the best team on the park at the weekends.”
