RBS CHAMPIONSHIP ‘B’
HAWICK YM got back to winning ways on Saturday courtesy of a five-try blitz that simply blew Morgan Academy away.
The Redskins put behind them their recent run of poor results and steadied the ship against Morgan with a bonus point victory that kept alive their hopes of a top three finish.
And after shipping 151 points in their last three league fixtures, it was equally pleasing for the Mansfield Haugh faithful to see their side keep a clean sheet into the bargain.
Both sides struggled to raise a team and the two teams kicked off with just 15 players apiece, with neither managing to recruit any replacements.
Inevitably, injuries took their toll on proceedings and it wasn’t long into the game when they were forced to go to uncontested scrums.
First half tries from Craig Robson, who has missed much of the season through injury, were both converted by the boot os Ali Weir to give the Skins a healthy half-time advantage.
Into the second half and the home side kept the scoreboard ticking over.
Ryan Hogg grabbed a brace of tries and the evergreen Keith Millar touched down for the other score.
Weir bagged two more conversions and as the game went into the final ten minutes the referee decided enough was enough, and with Morgan down to 12 players, he called an early halt to proceedings and blew the full-time whistle.
