McFarlane wants title tilt as YM go to Lasswade

HAWICK YM will aim to maintain the pressure on the top three clubs in RBS Championship ‘B’ with a pre-Christmas lift at Lasswade this afternoon.

The Redskins have already overcome the mid-table Midlothian side this season, having won 22-12 at Mansfield Haugh in September.

Despite his team’s opponents suffering some heavy defeats in recent weeks and missing some key players, YM boss Jammy McFarlane will not take the challenge lightly as he targets the league title.

“They’ve had a fairly mixed season and recently they’ve suffered a few bruisings in the regional cup,” said McFarlane. “I know they’ve had injury problems all season and have some significant players out long-term, but we can’t be feeling sorry for them.

“We need to accumulate as many points as we can. It’s still do-able to win the league. It’s a tall order but, while it’s do-able, we have to believe.”

YM are looking to apply pressure on third-placed Musselburgh as they sit just two points off their East Lothian rivals and ten points behind leaders Howe of Fife.

McFarlane is delighted to have the chance to earn league points.

He said: “It will just be nice to get a game as we’ve been inactive for five weeks now. We’ll be as ready as we can be, though, having trained indoors in recent weeks.”

Aside from long-term knee injury victims Ross Gibson and Ryan Halliday, YM are close to a fully-fit squad for tomorrow’s game. Garry Douglas is unavailable and Jason Hendry (broken leg) is still 2-3 weeks from a comeback.
