History in the making by Redskins

National League Division Two

Hawick YM37

The Redskins completed a remarkable league season undefeated on Saturday.

The large Mansfield Haugh crowd, who were there to see history being made, endured torrential downpours but went away very happy. Against fellow promoted Kilmarnock, the game was won in 12 first half minutes with four tries as the forwards blitzed the visiting pack.

First on the scoreboard was Neil McColm with his 21st try of the league season. It looked as though he was going to go all the way until a slip five yards from the line, but the forwards drove him over for the score.

Five minutes later Garry Douglas barged over and then Alistair Turnbull grabbed his first try of the season.

In the 29th minute Douglas picked and drove over again for his second try with Lee Armstrong converting all four scores. Kilmarnock’s sole points coming from a penalty.

With three YM men yellow carded in the second half, Kilmarnock scored two converted tries and were on top for a while to give the home side a scare, but three Ali Weir penalties put the tie beyond doubt.
