Hawick YM continue to roll in 2015, overwhelming Musselburgh at Volunteer Park on Saturday to make it 11 wins from 11 in BT Reserve League Division 2.

Few would have called Hawick YM, a new team entering the reserve leagues for the first time, an offensive juggernaut in August, particularly a team that was made of players who had never played together. But in December they are.

Saturday’s victory over Musselburgh was YM’s third 30-plus points effort in their past four outings, and it was the sixth time this season Hawick have topped 30 points.

Musselburgh had lost only four times, one of which was a tight 5-8 defeat to Hawick in October. Hawick, however, didn’t skip a beat, chalking up 37 unanswered points to extend their unbeaten run.

It was over almost before it began. YM jumped out to a 25-0 half-time lead through tries from Terry Skeet, Lewis Anderson, Lindsay Gibson and Neil Renwick, with Renwick chipping over a penalty and conversion.

The second half continued in much the same vein but battling against heavy underfoot conditions and a Musselburgh defence not willing to throw in the towel, YM only managed a pair of touchdowns. Jack McColm and Anderson scored, Renwick adding a conversion, before the officials ended the contest with 20 minutes left as conditions worsened.
