Although Linden fell to their second consecutive defeat of the BT East Regional League Division 1 season, they gave an excellent showing against a useful North Berwick side.
Things started badly for the
Royal Blues as Ben Inglis went over for a try for the visitors after only four minutes.
Thereafter the first half was evenly matched with both sides giving as good as they got. The pick-and-drive was going well for the home team, with North Berwick looking sharper behind the scrum.
There was no further scoring until just before the break. The East Lothian side eventually wore down the home defence to work an overlap and Sean Mackle notched the try, converted by Angus Elder, to take the score to 12-0.
Inglis added his second touchdown of the day for North Berwick, which Elder converted, and Barrie Keown plunged over for Linden following a forward rumble.
Charlie Elms claimed the bonus-point try as North Berwick stretched their lead to 24-5 after 56 minutes which was to remain the final score.
Linden will regret failing to score after battering the visitors’ line for a long period and also missing a couple of long-range penalties. However, they will be greatly encouraged that they were able to show superior fitness in the later stages of the game and by the performance of the whole pack, all of whom played out of their skins. In the backs, Gavin Stirling put in a power of tackling as the visitors regularly attacked his channel.
