HAWICK travelled to Kelso on Saturday for their first official pre-season game, which comprised four sessions with both teams experimenting with different permutations.
It proved to be an ideal work out for the Mansfield Park men who improved as the day went on, with the forwards’ fitness telling in the last session.
With the return to Premiership action at home to Aberdeen on August 24, Greens coach Phil Leck made best use of the squad, with forwards Kieran Willison and Keith Davies, in particular, in good form.
With Rory Hutton and Shawn Muir injured, new faces are set to be given the opportunity in the weeks ahead.
The Poynder Park team provided stiff opposition with the final score 50 points to 14 in favour of the visitors.
The Hawick try-scorers were Greig Cottrell (2), Steven Anderson, Andrew Ford, Kieran Willison, Scott McLeod, Gary Johnstone and Keith Davies. Conversions: Ali Weir (4) and Matty Douglas.
