Harlequins adapated the better of the two sides to the very heavy and muddy conditions to secure a bonus-point victory in Saturday’s BT East League Division 1 match.

The Teries dominated the first half and ran in some good tries. Sam Bandeen was first on the scoresheet when he gathered a clearance kick before running through the Dalkeith defence to touch down near the posts. Adam Hall landed the conversion.

The same combination of Bandeen and Hall ran and kicked Quins into a 14-0 lead, after which Neil Davidson put the homesters further ahead with a try, which was again converted by Hall, who also added a penalty.

The bonus try came courtesty of Jordan Hyslop when he dived in under the posts, with Hall continuing his success with the boot by notching the extras.

The second half saw both sides playing good rugby in the difficult conditions, but handling errors did not help.

Quins were still in scoring mood and Neil Douglas finished off a Hawick surge to the visitors’ line with a try, which was converted by Ross Anderson to complete the scoring.

A Quins spokesperson said: “This was a good overall performance, with everyone playing for each other.”
