Fixtures throw up mouth-watering matches

HAWICK will play neighbours Hawick YM for the first time in a competitive fixture when the two sides lock horns in the RBS Cup early next year.

The eagerly awaited match-up was announced this week and will see the two sides square up at Mansfield Park on February 2.

Meanwhile, league fixtures released by the Scottish Rugby Union have thrown up an interesting start to the season for the Greens as they bid to bounce back from relegation in RBS National League.

Phil Leck’s side open their account on August 25 away to Stewart’s Melville before entertaining Selkirk the following week. And on September 22 former coach Derek Armstrong brings his Biggar side to Hawick.

It’s a tough start for the Redskins as they play host to Kirkcaldy in Championship League ‘B’.

There will be plenty of local interest in East League Division 2, which features both Hawick Linden and Hawick Harlequins.

They kick off their campaign on September 15 with games against Dalkeith and Forrester respectively.

But fans won’t have the wait long for the first local derby, which is pencilled in for September 15, with the return fxture on December 15.

Fixtures for the Border League Pool matches were also revealed and see Hawick, in Pool ‘A’, travelling to Kelso in the opening match on August 18, with further games against Melrose and Peebles.

For the YM it is an incredibly tough start as they welcome current Border League champions Gala, before matches against Jed and Selkirk.
