HAWICK have added an international flavour to their RBC Capital Markets Sevens line-up for this year’s tournament.
And organisers are hoping the addition of teams from England and Holland will whet the appetite of supporters ahead of the showpiece event next month.
The Greens are bidding to retain their own silverware for the sixth successive season.
But as well as a host of Scottish clubs standing in their way, Phil Leck’s charges could also face visiting sides from Ponteland and Dutch cracks Haarlem.
Greens president Rory Bannerman said: “We are delighted that the five-in-a-row winners are back to defend their crown against such a strong selection of sides.
“Our friends from Holland will be bringing Dutch flair and panache to our annual sevens, while the cross-border raiding party from Ponteland – near Hexham – may be coming trying to steal our flag but we are hoping to send them homeward to think again.”
Hawick struck up a twinning arrangement with RFC Haarlem before the start of the season which saw 22-year-old scrum-half/stand-off Ingmar Van Hemert feature briefly in a pre-season fixture against Gala.
And Mr Bannerman is hoping their inclusion will add to the occasion as sides bid to wrestle the trophy from the Teri team.
He added: “Teams from across Scotland and even from across the fence at the YM are all vying for our Sevens trophy on what will be a wonderful day at the end of a memorable season.”
On the day there will be a ladies’ lunch, while corporate hospitality packages and sponsorship opportunities are still available.
