THE YM kicked off the new season at Preston Lodge 10s where they came close to successfully defending their trophy.
Drawn in Pool One alongside RHC Cougars, Preston Lodge and Dunbar, the YM lost the opening tie 7-0 against the Cougars but hit back in their next game to record a 15-5 win over the hosts, with tries from Dean McCracken, Glyn Desport and John Coutts.
The results in the other ties meant YM only had to beat Dunbar to progress to the semi-final. With the score at 7-5 for Dunbar going into the final seconds, Michael Graham strolled home to send the Skins into the semis with the last pass of the match.
The semi against North Berwick was a tough affair in terrible conditions, but tries by Matty Douglas and McCracken saw the Skins make an unlikely final against Preston Lodge.
McCracken scored early on in the final, but the rest of the tie belonged to the hosts who hit back to score three tries to take the score to 19-7. Glyn Desport scored a consolation try.
THE Redskins lost their pre-season match on Tuesday night against Premier One outfit Gala.
Split into three 20 minute segments, the Redskins lost out 56-7, with their only points courtesy of a Lindsay Gibson try.
YM have been drawn away to Duns in the first round of the RBS Border Shield, lining up a possible semi-final clash against the Linden on December 10.
