Young orienteers to fore in Urban League

MORE than 90 runners converged on Tweedbank on Sunday for round four of the Scottish Urban League, hosted by local club Roxburgh Reivers.

Based at the running track, competitors tackled courses of between two and six miles, trying to find the fastest route between the checkpoints.

Young local members did well with Hawick’s Eilidh Murray finishing third in the girls’ under-12 event. Other junior results: Sam McKinnon 5th, Yousuf Khursheed 5th, and Calum Murray 6th.

In the seniors, best result was Karen Maxwell’s second on the women’s open course. Third places went to Pauline McAdam on the 55+ and Ian Maxwell on the 40+.

The next local event sees a return to the traditional woodland setting of Gala Hill on September 28. More details at
