More than 150 children took part in the Hawick inter-schools athletics competition at Volunteer Park earlier this month, writes Staff Reporter.
Organised by Borders Sport and Leisure, the day featured 28 track-and-field events for primary sixes and sevens including sprint and relay races, high jump, triple jump, shot put and javelin.
Wilton school took overall top honours with 133 points across all the events. Drumlanrig Primary finished runners-up with 116, while the combined Denholm and Hobkirk schools team came in third on 110.
Borders Sport and Leisure’s Active Schools co-ordinator Paul Scott told the Hawick News: “What a brilliant afternoon we had at the inter-schools athletics competition.
“Throughout the day the children tried their very best and there were some terrific performances on show. A huge well done to all those who participated, they did themselves and their schools proud.”
Ewan Jackson, chief executive of Borders Sport and Leisure, added: “Inter-schools events are great at helping children to experience the fun of competitive sport.
“I would like to give special congratulations to our 2015 champions, Wilton Primary School, who were also the recipients of the event’s 1919 Cup.
“I would also like to thank of all those who assisted on the day, including the teachers and volunteers, without whom championships like this would not be pos- sible.”
