HAWICK jockey Wilson Renwick achieved his best finish at the Grand National on Saturday as he steered 100/1 shot Tarquinius home in eighth place.
On a great day for Borders racing, with Galashiels’ Ryan Mania riding to victory at Aintree, Renwick was also celebrating.
And it came at the end of a decent visit for the 31-year-old jockey who finished sixth the day before.
He said: “This was my third time racing in the Grand National. The whole day is great. It’s a brilliant event to be involved in and the atmosphere is tremendous.”
Renwick fell at the second on his Grand National debut and didn’t place at the second attempt.
But he was delighted with the result on Saturday.
“For me the race went pretty much to plan,” he said. “There was excitement more than nerves. We wanted the horse to go out and jump well and return safely and in the end we weren’t quite good enough.”
