Renwick goes close to record in opener

Last Thursday night saw riders hit top gear in the first round of Hawick Cycling Club’s inter-club time-

The season opener was a ten-mile TT on the A7, starting at Volunteer Park, with competitors turning at the five-mile marker for the run back to Hawick.

The 16-strong turnout was the most seen on the start line for several years which is very encouraging.

Fastest on the night was Wilson Renwick with a superb time of 22 minutes six seconds, only 12 seconds off the club record. Runner-up was David Beattie who showed great from to come home in 23.15, knocking 30 seconds off his best from last season. Third was the ever-improving Shaun Ingles in 25.01.

Other times were: 4, Sean Linton 25.54; 5, Gregor Sharp 25.56; 6, David Cavers 26.01; 7, Steven Walker 26.13; 8, Jonny Lothian 26.51; 9, Ross Hope 27.13; 10, Keith Raynor 27.26; 11, Nell Barker 27.30; 12, Andy Fair 27.39; 13, Peter Smith 27.42; 14, Michael Crawford 28.31; 15, Ian Elliot 28.50; 16, Steven Harkness 30.11.
