Hawick welterweight Jack Purvis travels to Ravenscraig tomorrow for the preliminary rounds of the Scottish Open Elite Championships.
Seventeen of the country’s top welters are lined up for a title tilt and this is a huge step up in class for the 18-year-old.
Purvis missed out on a shot at the intermediate title in January due to an ear infection, but speaking to the Hawick News this week, coach Colin Purvis said: “It’s likely Jack will be the youngest fighter in at this weight and the majority will have more experience than him.
“He’s been training hard and had had some fantastic sparring in Newcastle and Edinburgh in the last three weeks and he deserves to be in there. It is a big step up in class but he’s done the hard work, is confident and is looking forward to it.”
