Hawick were comprehensively defeated by Gala at Meigle Park on Tuesday night in the Border 20/20 Cup.
The home side batted first and laid a solid platform as openers Jack Halls and David Boland put on 27 for the first wicket, which came from Neil Storey as Halls was out for 12.
Ryan Johnston had Boland caught for 13 to leave Gala on 43-2. The Teries kept taking wickets at regular intervals but bowled far too many wides and didn’t deliver with enough control, which gifted the hosts extra runs as they continued to accelerate on throughout the innings.
Ronan Alexander picked up a brace of wickets, including Josh Irvine, who made 20 before being caught by Bruce Mactaggart.
Youngsters Morgan Tait and Gareth Welsh were given the tough task of bowling at the death as Dinesh Tharanga top-scored with 37 and Kris Mein made 22 before Welsh dismissed both of them in his impressive spell.
A run-out on the last ball meant Hawick had the tough task of chasing 153 runs for victory. The visitors got off to the worst possible start with Mein tearing through the Teries’ top order before Halls notched the wicket of Stuart Hair, leaving Hawick on 4-4 with victory already out of sight.
Alexander and Allan Moffat provided the only hint of resistance before they were dismissed for eight and 12 respectively. Hawick never recovered as Dean Moir picked up three wickets and Tharanga claimed a brace.
Gala running out comfortable winners by 112 runs with the visitors all out for 40.
