Hawick Cycling Club’s David Beattie and Wilson Renwick travelled to Ayrshire at the weekend to take part in the Scottish Ten-mile Time-Trial Championships.

With 110 riders starting the event in cold and damp conditions, both Hawick men posted impressive times, Wilson Renwick notching a well-deserved 11th place in 21 minutes eight seconds. Beattie rode strongly to complete the course in 22.12 to take 40th spot. Renwick’s time and finishing position was the best by Hawick Cycling Club in recent years and the committee would like to thank both riders for competing at this event.

Last Thursday, David Beattie landed the honours in the club’s weekly 10-mile time-trial on the Newmill course on the A7.

Beattie came home in 24 minutes two seconds; with newcomer Liam Beaty showing his potential with another impressive ride to finish runner-up in 24.11; ahead of club veteran Davie Cavers who was third in 26.10.

Other times: 4, Steven walker 26.19; 5, Andy Fair 27.30; 6, Ian Anderson 29.57; 7, Connor Telfer 31.05.

The club would like to thank the marshals and time keepers, without whom these events couldn’t take place.
