Hawick Cyling Club’s David Beattie saddled up for an excellent 14th place finish in his first time-trial of the year, the Galston Hilly Time-Trial, near Kilmarnock.
The 13-mile event, staged over a trying course in cold conditions, saw the hard-riding Beattie notch a time of 38 minutes 28 seconds from a field of around 60 riders.
Also in action recently was Hawick club member Gordon Jackson who came home in 53rd position in the Gifford third/fourth category road race, near Haddington.
The 40-mile event comprised five laps of an eight-mile circuit, on an undulating course with each lap running through the village of Gifford. The strong field of 80 riders set off at a frantic pace with veteran Jackson doing well to stay with the peloton early on. But as the race progressed, with a small group breaking away, he slipped off the back of the main bunch and finished in 1.55.
