Last Monday saw husband and wife Alex and Mary Martin slipping to a narrow 12-11 defeat against a Gala Abbotsford pair in the area final of the Scottish Pairs on the Hawick green.
The senior men were in league action at home to Earlston/Melrose last Tuesday, and it was the visitors who secured a keenly-fought 60 shots to 52 victory .Best for the hosts were T. Cairns, K. Lyle and T. Edmison (skip) 19-13.
Also last Tuesday, the ladies played host to Hawick in the league, and with one rink going each way, it was the Hawick ladies who got the extra point by winning overall. Top for Buccleuch were H. Megahy, M. Johnstone, C. Stitt and M. Martin (skip) 12-10.
The men were on league duty at home to Peebles last Wednesday, and with five rinks to go the visitors were a couple of shots up. However, a late surge from the Teries saw them notching a fine 84 shots to 64 win. Best for Buccleuch were R. Silver, A. Brown, M. Bell and C. Miller (skip) 22-11.
Members are reminded that tomorrow (Saturday) sees the annual friendly against Wilton on the Buccleuch green. The match will be followed by a social evening comprising a meal and dancing.
The ‘A’ team scored a good 77 shots to 75 victory over Abbotsford in the league last Monday night. Bill Anderson’s rink were top performers with a 25-12 success. Details: L. Clarkson 15 B. The ‘A’ team came away with a comprehensive 119 shots to 72 victory against a strong Kelso side last Wednesday. Top for the Teries were S. Spalding, S. Johnstone, A. Oliver and M. Christy (skip).

Last Thursday’s inaugural D. P. Johnstone Memorial Triples, in memory of the late Davy Johnstone who passed away earlier this year, attracted an entry of 16 triples from around the Borders, and was won by G. Moyes, J. Gray and G. Moyes. The beaten finalists were the Hawick club’s W. Wells, C. Logan and G. Lyall. The club is indebted to sponsors for making this such a good day and the Johnstone family for their support. Thanks also to the hard-working Bert Wear for organising the event.
Saturday saw the club entertain Weir Bowling Club from Glasgow, and a good day was had by all, with the hosts emerging winners by 80 shots to 75. Top rink for the Teries comprised Z. Borthwick, N. Whillans, K. Ford and J. H. Reilly – all of whom were outstanding.
The five rink ‘A’ team had three away games to contest last week, and the first of these saw the Wiltonians recording an important by 73 shots to 70 victory at kelso.
