NICK Mactaggart is ready to return to The Greenyards tomorrow, and the wing forward insists Hawick can upset the applecart, writes Gavin Gibbon.
Melrose are sitting fourth in their British and Irish Cup pool and, having played more rugby than most during the enforced winter shutdown, are coming off the back of an impressive victory over Nottingham.
But Mactaggart believes the injury-ravaged Greens can get a result and dent his former club’s league title hopes in the process.
He told the Hawick News; “They’re sitting so high up in the table that it would be great to get an upset against them.
“I think it’s good going into a Borders derby as underdogs, everybody’s expecting Melrose to win, so the pressure is off us.”
Mactaggart made the move from the Greenyards to the Greens at the start of the season and has been a pivotal player in helping Hawick secure their Premier One status.
But he admitted it’s all about disrupting the teams at the top as the season peters out.
He added: “Because we’re now safe, it’s more about what we can do to upset teams like Melrose and Ayr who are going for the title and trying to stop them.”
n Tomorrow’s match will also count towards the Border League, while the Greens have scheduled a Border League fixture against Langholm on Tuesday night, kick off 3pm.
