DESPITE making an exit from the Beveridge Cup, Legion put up a fine show in this ding-dong encounter that produced plenty of excitement as well as goals galore.

Facing a strong wind, Legion fell behind during the early part of the game, but soon got on level terms through a Scott Duncan strike. Even though they were playing straight into the elements, the visitors held the upper hand and Duncan and David Battle were foiled by great saves from the Star keeper.

West Barns then went on to net twice, but towards the interval Bryan Tait put Legion back in the hunt when making no mistake with a penalty.

Early in the second half the home side scored again but Legion took this in their stride and Duncan pulled a goal back.

Play continued to flow at a hectic pace and after West Barns had notched a fifth, Darren Murphy reduced the leeway with a sweetly struck drive.

Legion gave their all in a bid for an equaliser after this, only to be sent reeling when West Barns stretched their lead to seal victory.
