Border Amateur ‘A’ Division
UNDERSTRENGTH Waverley gained a very creditable draw in what turned out to be a free-scoring clash.
With manager Mick Hope in the centre of defence, the visitors got off to an encouraging start by soaring into the lead.
Callum Hope whipped over a cross and Barry Shiel did the rest with a shot which hit the underside of the bar before bouncing down over the line.
Shortly afterwards Shiel put the homesters into further arrears in putting away another Callum Hope cross.
Pencaitland began to rally back and were twice denied by superb stops from Waverley keeper Michael White.
With two minutes of the first half remaining though, they opened their account.
After the break Pencaitland came out with all guns blazing and sent Waverley reeling by scoring twice.
Shiel, however, drew them level by completing his hat-trick with a penalty.
Pencailtand replied by hitting a fourth, but never-say-die Waverley weren’t finished and Jordan Yardley grabbed an equaliser with the last kick of the game.
