Two young rugby players are set to hone their skills with a Scotland age group squad in Spain, writes John Slorance.
High school and Hawick Wanderers pair Fraser Renwick and Darcy Graham have been picked to attend a rugby development camp at Valladolid, where Scots under-17s and under-18s will be put through their paces in areas such as techniques, speed and technical weights.
Speaking of the forthcoming two-week trip, Fraser, who plays hooker, said “Darcy and myself are both excited about going to the camp. We know it’s going to be hard work and a big test for us, but we will both learn a lot from being there.”
Apart from making their mark in school and semi-junior rugby, Fraser and Darcy have also impressed on the regional scene in which which sides from the Borders, Edinburgh, Glasgow and Caledonia faced each other in matches. These fixtures concluded in a trial game from which the group for Spain was selected.
Full-back/winger Darcy said: “I was thrilled when I was told that Fraser and I had made the squad. We both really appreciate getting an opportunity like this and it’s going to be a fantastic learning experience.”
