Waverley hit winning trail

Hawick Waverley 2

Ancrum 1

Bidding for their first win in four outings, Waverley achieved their aim thanks to a fine all-round show in Saturday’s Border Amateur ‘A’ Division match.

Reflecting on matters, Waverley defender Alan Campbell commented: “It was good to get back on the winning trail. We should have won by a lot more goals, though, but missed a lot of chances. In the first half we could well have been seven goals up as we were so much on top. When you are struggling to get the results, the breaks don’t seem to go your way and we lacked a bit of luck in front of goal. We got the win we were looking for, however, and I’m happy with that.”

Although coming close on several occasions, Waverley failed to find the scoring touch in the first half. Ancrum, on the other hand, stuck away a counter in a breakaway attack.

The second period followed a similar pattern with Waverley doing the bulk of the attacking.

Goals, however, did arrive. Declan Hogg getting both, his second strike being an absolute stunner.
