Waverley come from behind after half-time ‘straight talking’

HAWICK Waverley boss Bruce Hughes admitted there was some straight talking done during Saturday’s match at Wilton Lodge Park.

But whatever he said worked a treat as his side went on to secure victory and claim top spot in the Border Amateur ‘A’ Division.

Hughes said: “We were atrocious in the first half, absolutely terrible.

“There was some straight talking done at half-time as I told the players how I felt about their performance.

“The message must have got through because in the second half we were immense. They all rolled their sleeves up and played some good football.

“It was in complete contrast to the way we played in the first half and we went on to get a great result.”

Hearts had the upper hand in the opening 45 minutes and scored through former Royal Albert striker Daniel Brough, who also hit the woodwork twice.

After the interval, Waverley started to take command and Liam Lavery equalised.

The home side kept up the pressure and after the visitors had only partially cleared a Dean McColm corner, Ross Wallace grabbed what proved to be a worthy winning goal.
