Royalists player hit with three-year ban

HAWICK Royal Albert player Paul Power has been banned for three years.

The midfielder, who has captained Royalists on a number of occasions, was hit with the suspension at the end of last week.

It is understood Power was already subject to a previous lengthy ban believed to be as a result of violent conduct.

Club secretary Dougie Purves explained: “Paul signed for Hawick Royal Albert in January this year. Completely unknown to us he had been banned for a year in the Lothian and Edinburgh Amateur League when he played for Arniston Amateurs.

“Due to a lack of communication between the Lothian and Edinburgh Amateur League and Arniston Amateurs, Paul didn’t receive the paperwork notifying him of his suspension as it had been sent out to a previous address.

“Arniston, who have now folded, didn’t get in touch with Paul in any way.

“Hawick Royal Albert were completely unaware of these happenings and have been cleared by the SFA and got the Association’s full backing.”

Power played for Royalists in their victory over Duns in an East of Scotland League game earlier this season and was also in the Albert side that recently drew with Gala Fairydean in a league clash.

This matter will be brought up at the next East of Scotland League meeting.
