Rovers fell behind with just two minutes of the game gone, when Kelso sailed ahead through a penalty after having had a man brought down in the box by Alan Morrison.

Clinton Sharkey then had the ball in the net for Rovers. A goal, however, was chalked off for a previous infringement.

The remainder of the match proved to be something of a non-event with neither side conjuring up good football or creating scoring chances.

As a result, Kelso’s early penalty proved to be the winner.

Rovers manager Darren McElrath was none too happy about his side’s performance and fumed: “We didn’t deserve to get anything out of the game. Few of our players got pass marks and it was our worst performance of the season.

“We had a lot to play for because if we had won we would have finished third in the league. It was just one of those days in which nothing dropped for us and I’m very disappointed.”
