Hawick Waverley 2

Victors over West Barns Star the previous week at home, Waverley made the early running and Ryan Shepherd squandered a good chance to break the deadlock.

The Hawick outfit continued to look the part but received a jolt when West Barns Star took the lead with a goal from right out of the blue.

In the second half, Waverley grabbed an equaliser when a West Barns defender put the ball through his own net after being put under pressure by Teri pair Luke Cooper and Aaron Swailes.

Showing plenty of drive and commitment, Waverley began to push for further goals. However, it was Star who did the scoring to regain their lead.

Waverley still had plenty to offer, though, and substitute Ross McLeod put the Teries level when thundering a shot past the Star keeper.

Waverley manager Neal McConnell said of matters: “Having beaten West Barns 4-1 in our last game we had to fancy our chances. We didn’t come away with a win but I was happy with the way we played.

“At times we perhaps lacked a cutting edge but overall we performed very well. I was particularly pleased with the character the boys showed when fighting back from a goal behind late on in the game.

“The entire team played well with Jason Inglis and Aaron Swailes in particular impressing. Ross McLeod also did a great job by coming off the bench to score a goal and this is the second week in succession he’s done this. It’s starting to look good for us.”
