Legion have to settle for share of points

Hawick Legion 2

Tweeddale Rovers 2

The two respective sides were in the hunt for Border Amateur ‘B’ Division honours and promotion and, following a dramatic finish, Thursday night’s match ended all square.

In a closely-fought first half which failed to conjure up many chances, Legion opened the scoring in the 18th minute. The Tweeddale defence only partially cleared a Simon Philbin cross and the ball broke to the feet of Callum Hope who fired home.

Minutes later, Hope came near to getting a second in driving an Andrew McFarlane pass into the side netting.

With 39 minutes gone, David Lindsay put Rovers on a level pegging when finding the net with a lobbed shot.

In the second period Legion gained the upper hand with some purposeful-looking attacks.

The home team’s finishing was poor, though, and several good scoring opportunities went astray.

However, two minutes from time, Legion did do the job when Scott Duncan produced the scoring touch.

The game now looked all over but Tweeddale had other ideas and with just seconds remaining grabbed a dramatic equaliser through Martin Cunningham.
