Hawick Legion came extremely close to being crowned Border Amateur ‘B’ Division champions last season. And although this title was to elude them, the Wilton Lodge Park outfit nevertheless made their mark by gaining promotion, writes John Slorance.
Since moving up to the ‘A’ division, Legion have more than held their own and are currently in the top half of the league table.
Reflecting on his side’s campaign so far, Legion striker Jamie Dickson told the Hawick News: “It’s a lot harder playing in the ‘A’ league than it was in the ‘B’ division.
“You are up against better teams and better players and everything is a lot faster. I’m enjoying it, though, and we’ve been doing okay.
“Losing goals from set-pieces has been a problem for us, however, and the quicker we get this sorted out the better.”
This afternoon (Saturday), Legion take on high-ranking West Barns Star, who are having an excellent season.
Looking ahead to the match, Dickson said: “West Barns are a good side but if we can perform the same way as we did against Gordon in our last match, we’re in with a real chance of doing something.
“Gordon are one of the best teams in the league, but we really proved ourselves by getting a draw against them away from home and could well have beaten them.
“The league is wide open at the moment, so a win over West Barns would be just great for us.”
