HAWICK High School girls are ready to strut their stuff in the Scottish Cup final at Spartans Academy on Wednesday night.
And, with a series of dominant performances against opposition from far flung locations such as Aberdeenshire and the Western Isles under their belt, they go into the match against Edinburgh side Firrhill High School brimming with confidence.
This season has already seen two girls win international honours, three selected for the South-East regional squad and a handful sweep all before them as part of the successful Hawick Youth teams.
“We have an extraordinary group of talented footballers this year, every one of whom has contributed to us reaching the final,” said girls’ coach Thomas Clark (pictured). “They’re all very ambitious girls, high achievers in class as well as out of it, and we couldn’t ask for better ambassadors for the school or the town.”
The team have put together a string of impressive victories en route to the final, clocking up 36 goals in five games, while conceding only two.
Clark added: “They’ve gone into every game confident of getting a result, and this one will be no different. They have a lot of self-belief, and their performances warrant it. I doubt there can be a harder-working team in the country, or one that wants to win more than they do.
“With a large travelling support and the whole school behind them, it will definitely be an occasion to remember for the girls.”
