HAWICK Royal Albert will be facing Rangers stars of the future this afternoon.

And Gers club ambassador Sandy Jardine urged supporters to go along to Albert Park and see for themselves the talent on show.

Included in the Ibrox side’s Under-20 squad heading to Albert Park are several known names included Chris Hegarty, who was on the bench for Wednesday’s League Cup tie against East Fife; Darren Cole, who started for Rangers in their Champions League tie against Bursaspor in 2010; and Kal Naismith, a second-half replacement in the new Rangers’ first fixture against Brechin last month.

Former right-back Jardine told the Hawick News: “At the moment we’re still in a reorganisation phase because we’ve lost so many players when the club had its problems.

“It’s all about building the club back up and fundamental to this are these young players.

“They’ll be a really good team. There’s a lot of good young laddies to be honest and we’re expecting big things from them.

“They’ve never had a better chance to get into the Rangers side and I think supporters will see their quality.”

The glamour friendly with the troubled Ibrox outfit was cancelled last month as they awaited SFA membership.

With that secured, 63-year-old Jardine, who made 451 appearances for the Gers scoring 42 goals, is now looking towards the future, starting on Sunday.

He added: “It promises to be a great match. There will be players that fans will see and in a couple of years time they’ll be able to say they saw them first playing at Hawick.”

This won’t be the Glasgow club’s first visit to Hawick as a Rangers XI lined up against Royalists in August 1990.

Among the Hawick boys to face Rangers this time around is 15-year-old Kerr Brown.

Signed by Royalists during the close season he made his debut last week against Whitehill Welfare.

And the Celtic daft teenager can’t wait for Sunday’s game.

He said: “It’s like a dream come true to play against Rangers.

“I never thought this would ever happen and it’ll be the biggest game I’ve ever played in.”

Two other Hawick youngsters, Declan Hogg and Steven Drummond, are also in the Albert squad, although Gers fan Ryan Shepherd is injured.

The match kicks off at 2.30pm.
