Hawick United 0

Fielding an understrength side, United crashed out of the Wright Cup in their opening game of the season.

During a first half in which United keeper Dean Fry pulled off a splendid save from a penalty, Hotspur took the lead with a shot that entered the net via a deflection.

Following the interval, Kevin Strathdee and Aaron Swailes squandered chances to put United level.

The Tangerines were to suffer for this as Gala netted a further twice to seal victory.

United striker Kevin Strathdee said: “We dominated most of the game but we didn’t create many chances and the one’s we did, we didn’t put away. It’s disappointing to lose your first game but we had a few boys missing.”
