A double strike from Chay Caldwell helped steer Legion Rovers to a convincing win in this Border Amateur ‘C’ Division match.

After Clinton Sharkey had seen an effort cannon off the upright during an evenly-contested opening period, Caldwell grabbed the first of his brace with a perfect finish to a well-worked move involving Kevin Miller, Michael Moir and Sean Clarke.

Two minutes later, Caldwell put Rovers further ahead by tucking away a Clarke pass.

In the second period, St Boswells fell into further arrears when Clarke dispossessed a defender before shooting home.

Rovers kept their foot on the gas and substitute Louis Johnstone, who had been a buzz-bomb since coming onto the park, got his name on the scoresheet in beating the home keeper with an excellent header from a Jory Robertson cross.

Rovers manager Darren McElrath said of his side’s triumph: “We were immense at the back and good at going forward. It was a great team performance. Everybody played well, particularly Jory Robertson, who was the man-of-the-match”.
