LANA Skeldon made a winning debut for Scotland Women on Sunday as she helped them to a convincing 33-10 win over Netherlands Women, writes Gavin Gibbon.
The 18-year-old started the game at the National Rugby Stadium in Amsterdam on the bench, but was introduced to the fray on 52 minutes.
And the powerful flanker admitted she loved every minute.
She told the Hawick News: “It was quite nerve-racking to begin with and it was a totally different atmosphere to what I’ve been used to before. But I soon got speaking to people and everyone was really welcoming.
“The match looked really good from the touchline and quite intense. When the opportunity arose for me to go on I felt like I fitted in. I went right into a scrum so I was straight into the action.”
With two further Scotland series games before Christmas, and competition rife for places, Lana, who plays for Melrose Ladies, is hoping to become a regular fixture in the side.
She added: “Hopefully I can get some more games and play a part in next year’s 6 Nations.”
