hawick mountain bike racer Corey Watson narrowly missed out on a podium place at a presigious UK event.

Competing in the Scottish Downhill Association’s Llangollen British Downhill series at the weekend, the 13-year-old finished in an impressive sixth place in two minutes 34 seconds, just missing out on fifth by a split second.

Corey’s dad Mark told the Hawick News: “He’s not had that much good luck this year, as he’s came off in the last three races and his time suffered. But on Sunday he had a successful run. He was racing against boys from all over Britain, so he did really well.

“This is the third one he’s done this year, and he’s still got another three big races coming up.”

Corey is back in action in the Dunkeld SDA later this month.
