Battling Rovers can’t avoid home defeat to Bowholm

DESPITE a spirited performance by Legion Rovers, they were unable to prevent defeat against a strong CFC Bowholm side at Wilton Lodge Park on Saturday.

The home side started strongly, with Jamie Dickson firing over in the first five minutes.

When Bowholm did break through, Jimmy Gillespie in the Rovers goal dealt comfortably with their efforts.

At the other end Rovers were finding things a little more difficult, but they came closest to opening the scoring in the 36th minute with a long-range drive by Aaron Massie which was comfortably stopped by the Bowholm keeper.

Rovers went into the second period with confidence only to fall behind within seconds of the restart. A long ball to the right, missed by Massie, was latched onto by Mattinson, who shot past the helpless Gillespie.

Bowholm continued to press and it was no surprise when they scored again 15 minutes later. A free kick from the right resulted in a close-range header by the unchallenged defender Hall.

With Massie coming close again with a long-range drive things were looking up for the young Teries and they came within inches of grabbing a goal when superb one-touch football involving Thomas Scott, Gavin Brady and Chay Caldwell created the chance of the game for Dickson, who could only stretch to tap the ball wide.

With Rovers pressing to get back into the game, Bowholm ended on a high with a further headed goal.
