AGM marks new era at angling club

HAWICK Angling Club held its AGM last week, and had the best turnout for a number of years.

Ken McCartney retired as president after 13 years. Vice-president French D. Wight was elected to take over from him and Rob Kohler was elected as vice-president. And on behalf of the club I would like to welcome Stuart Boyle and John Smith on to the committee.

It was announced that the club has now lost the fishing on Akermoor due to the farmer not wanting anglers crossing his land. The club has had the fishing on this loch since the late 70’s.

There is no change to the price of local tickets for the coming season. A lively discussion took place over a committee recommendation requesting that all hen salmon be returned in October. This is only a request and not compulsory.

Tickets for this season will be on sale in the clubrooms and local outlets from early February.

The river has been up and down over the past two weeks which has spoiled the grayling fishing but anyone who has managed to get it at the right level has been reporting fish of 2lbs plus. Shane Kelly and Brian Taylor had 9 and 1 respectively at Roslynlee.
