Time up for Hawick councillor

Further to Councillor Davie Paterson’s startling admission that he has been “dealing” with dog fouling issues since 1988 (Hawick News, September 18) – is it not time for him to be stripped of his lucrative environmental services portfolio at Scottish Borders Council, and the department placed in the hands of an elected member who can actually get to grips with this disgusting scourge?

Mr Paterson is at his disingenuous best when he says there is “no easy answer” to tackling dog fouling, while knowing fine well that fines and enforcement would make a huge dent in the problem.

I write to you today following a walk around Wilton Lodge Park with my youngest daughter, whose shoes and one trouser leg are covered in dog excrement as a result of our visit.
