Successful dinner prompts huge thanks

MAY I take this opportunity to express my sincere thanks to everyone who contributed to such a fantastic evening on Saturday at the 12 Marathons Sporting Dinner.

There were many hours of worry and sleepless nights, but as the old saying goes: “It’ll be alright on the night.” And how true that was.

I hope everyone who attended enjoyed the night as much as I did. Speakers George McNeill and Terence Froud were of the highest calibre and Craig Murray, of Stevie T Band fame, entertained superbly with a selection of fittings songs.

Ever since making an appeal for donations for raffle and auction prizes I have been inundated and overwhelmed and those on offer on Saturday night absolutely tremendous. Some lucky people walked away with some pretty good prizes.

To Debbie Brown and her staff, who provided a first class meal and service; and to Bobby Froud and the bar staff; I thank you for your patience and professionalism – you are all a great credit to Hawick RFC.

Kelly Quinn from Brydons made the superb centre pieces and Laura Crozier was a magnificent help in organising a whole host of things, making sure the event ran smoothly.

And Stuart Oliver engineered a hugely successful auction, which really helped to boost the coffers.

From the minute that grace was said by Keith Douglas, to the vote of thanks from Provost Stuart Marshall, I certainly thoroughly enjoyed the occasion.

And we raised an amazing £2,522 for The Cystic Fibrosis Trust, helping to boost my 12 marathons in 12 months total.

All that is left is to run two marathons in the next four weeks and complete a final prize raffle with more of the incredible items generously donated by individuals and businesses from the town.

Words cannot express how grateful I am to everyone. Thank you.
